Position Summary
Prepares and labels medications ensuring proper technique and supplies are utilized in the preparation of IV admixtures; supervises technicians and pharmacy students.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares/labels medications accurately, ensuring proper technique and supplies are used in the preparation of IV admixtures.
Reviews medication orders and prescriptions for accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness and processes these orders.
Orders and receives investigational drugs, maintaining accountability for the division.
Checks all work performed by technicians/students and checks all prescriptions/medication orders before dispensing.
Provides current drug-related information to physicians and staff from the most reliable sources available.
Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, securing and renewing licenses and registrations as required.
Provides physicians, staff, and patients with appropriate information concerning therapeutic actions, interactions, adverse effects, and formulary status of medications.
Participates in continuing education programs and pharmacy-related programs as required for license renewals and to maintain updated service.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment.
Exposure to chemicals.
Requires protective devices.
Direct patient care setting.
Typical physical effort: sitting at desk, standing or walking, bending, crouching, stooping, repetitive wrist, hand or finger movement (PC typing), occasional lifting (25 lbs or less).
Equipment: office equipment and clinical/diagnostic equipment.
Education & Required Qualifications
Pharm.D. – Doctor of Pharmacy.
Certifications
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.
Basic Life Support – American Red Cross.
Pharmacist – Missouri Board of Pharmacy.
Pharmacist – Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
Registered Pharmacist – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
