Job Summary Multiple positions available at either Human Resources Business Partner II, III, or Senior levels. Each role partners with business units to align HR strategy with business goals, overseeing recruitment, benefits, performance management, employee relations, and HR program execution.

Essential Functions

Human Resources Business Partner II (HRBP II)

Serves as the main HR contact for assigned units, interpreting policies and providing guidance on moderately complex issues.

Partners with hiring managers to develop and refine job descriptions, ensuring alignment with FLSA, ADA, and other regulatory requirements.

Supports full‑cycle recruitment, advising on planning and best practices.

Collaborates with the Employee Accommodations and Absence Support Team on ADA/FMLA cases, maintaining communication throughout the leave or accommodation period.

Assists senior HR staff with performance management and employee relations matters.

Develops reports and analytics to support HR decision‑making and contributes to professional development initiatives.

Improves coordination across campus HR functions, offering feedback for continuous improvement.

May supervise HR staff.

Human Resources Business Partner III (HRBP III)

Provides strategic HR guidance on complex issues, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Supervises a team of HR staff, coaching for high‑quality service delivery.

Engages senior leadership to identify and address HR challenges, offering tailored solutions.

Leads short‑term strategic planning and staff‑level workforce planning.

Provides guidance on collective bargaining, performance expectations, and grievance resolution.

Partners with Compensation on complex pay issues.

Develops talent acquisition strategies, stays up‑to‑date on market trends.

Fosters training and development initiatives.

Serves as liaison between departments and HR business centers for solution design.

Uses HR data insights to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Senior Human Resources Business Partner (Senior HRBP)

Leads HR transformation initiatives and strategic planning, driving change across the university.

Provides expert guidance on recruitment, benefits, onboarding, compensation, engagement, training, labor relations, and talent management.

Handles highly complex HR issues, resolving escalated matters automatically and efficiently.

Leads and supervises an HR staff team, coaching for continuous improvement.

Creates long‑term staffing plans and succession planning, establishing retention and promotion programs.

Manages employee exit processes, analyzing trends for retention strategy.

Ensures compliance with employment laws, participates in investigations and EEO issue resolution.

Collaborates with HR business centers and campus leadership on strategic HR solutions.

Other Functions Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

Human Resources Business Partner II – Four (4) years of HR experience.

Human Resources Business Partner III – Six (6) years of HR experience.

Senior Human Resources Business Partner – Eight (8) years of HR experience.

Salary Information

HRBP II:

Salary Level 28

HRBP III:

Salary Level 29

Senior HRBP:

Salary Level 31

Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. The position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position is non‑unit, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Non‑Unit (Professional) Employee Personnel Policy. The position has the opportunity for a remote work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where the employee’s work location is to work from a site other than the UMass Amherst campus. As this position is non‑unit, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Non‑Unit (Professional) Employee Personnel Policy.
