Job Summary
The Residential Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) solicits and originates residential mortgage loans from internal and external sources while ensuring high‑quality customer service and loan quality. Successful candidates will have a proven track record in loan origination, business development, and relationship management. With locations throughout Florida and national SBA and USDA business lending divisions, the role supports and develops relationships with large and small business owners, their employees, and Cogent associates.
Responsibilities and Duties
Attract new mortgage loan applications by developing relationships within the Bank and the community, including coworkers, realtors, builders, investment advisors, referral partners, and centers of influence.
Regularly make sales visits to banking centers, prospective customers, and referral partners, marketing the Bank’s mortgage loan products accurately and effectively, including explanation of risks and benefits.
Introduce mortgage clients to other Bank solutions to deepen client opportunities.
Obtain relevant information and evaluate prospective customers’ financial status—credit, employment, income, assets, and appraisal reports—to recommend loan approval.
Consistently communicate with prospective customers, providing loan application status, answering questions, explaining underwriting conditions, and scheduling closings.
Maintain current knowledge of all applicable lending regulations, agency, government, and investor guidelines along with the economy, interest‑rate environment, vendors, and competitors.
Conduct all business professionally and ethically to serve customers and enhance the Bank’s goodwill.
Ensure BSA compliance by following BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures and completing all related online courses.
Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, or duties as directed by management.
Qualifications and Skills
Active NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator License or ability to attain one required.
Minimum two years of mortgage origination experience with an own referral network.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding production goals.
Superior sales skills combined with a service mentality.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Encompass knowledge preferred.
Optimal Blue knowledge preferred.
