Senior Liability Claims Representative positions investigate, adjust and settle the most difficult, complex and sensitive bodily injury, personal injury, and property damage claims filed against the City; evaluate property damage and bodily injuries; estimate settlement value; review accident and injury reports; interviews and correspond with claimants, witnesses, physicians and attorneys; approve or recommend denial of claims; negotiate settlements; prepares comprehensive investigative reports; represents the City in small claims actions, mediations and settlement conferences; lead the work of other professional public liability claims representatives; and perform other duties as assigned.

NOTE:

Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employee Retirement Systems (SDCERS).

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.

EXPERIENCE Three years of full-time professional experience in the investigation, adjustment, and settlement of general and/or automobile liability claims involving bodily injury and property damage which MUST include at least two years of full-time experience handling claims covered by California Law. Qualifying professional experience MUST include the authority for approval of settlements and denial of claims.

NOTE:

City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

Experience in Loss Recovery, Subrogation, and/or Collections; including first party property claims.

Experience in multi-line claim handling

Experience in handling litigated claims.

Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report. Certain positions may require additional screening processes, including a polygraph examination and/or background investigation. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins.
