Location: Springfield, Virginia

Type: Contract to Hire

Compensation: $130,000 - $150,000 (depending on experience)

Security Clearance: TS/SCI required (U.S. Citizenship)

Job Overview Network Engineer to provide support for LAN/WAN by developing network support processes, procedures, guidelines for troubleshooting network events and performing sustaining tasks. The role will design and maintain network environments compliant with relevant standards, evaluate, consult and make technology recommendations to senior management. Requires experience in complex telecommunications applications covering all phases of network design, implementation, analysis, research, requirements, installation, troubleshooting and support of local and wide area network hardware, software, and applications. Expected to have experience with large‑scale enterprise/global networks in a high‑paced diverse environment.

Responsibilities

Maintain thorough knowledge of existing network and/or security hardware and software to provide third‑tier technical and administrative support and complex internal analysis of network and security infrastructure.

Act as technical interface with vendors and external stakeholders; review and make recommendations on network and security service/maintenance arrangements.

Review technical documentation of supported environments to ensure accuracy and up‑to‑date information.

Provide operations & support of LAN/WAN services on an expanded 24x7 support level on‑site and 12x5 core hours, with on‑call support and a two‑hour response time during non‑core hours.

Provide manhole maintenance and repair services for outside plant cabling on a standard 8x5 service level for communications.

Install and configure WAN and LAN hardware including voice, video, and data cable systems; develop system specifications, architecture designs, integration and test plans, and all relevant documentation.

Develop risk management and mitigation strategy.

Maintain compliance with QA standards and ensure service performance indicators are met or exceeded.

Work individually and as part of integrated teams; require minimal guidance from senior technicians, specialists and managers.

Provide guidance to lower‑level technicians and specialists; apply advanced concepts and processes to daily activities.

Assist senior level technicians, specialists and managers in their activities.

Perform all tasks of lower‑level technicians or specialists.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Field.

4+ years’ experience working as a Network Engineer.

TS/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

DoD 8140.01 or 8570.01‑M, IAT II (Security+, GSEC, SSCP, or CCNA).

Experience designing, developing, and maintaining hardware and software for LANs, WANs, internet, intranets, and other data communication systems.

Knowledge of common network components: routers, switches, firewalls, protocols, VoIP, DNS, remote access, VPN, routing, and switching.

Knowledge of TCP/IP routing technologies: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and applicable business lines/industries.

Effective written and oral communication of complex concepts to internal and external audiences, including executive management.

Design, engineering, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of LANs, WANs, and security infrastructure.

Advanced level network design, engineering, and implementation; estimation of labor for planning, engineering, procurement, and installation of Enterprise Transport solutions.

Understanding of DISA, IC standards, and processes.

Proficient with MS Office suite (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Technical experience in network and transport technologies, tools, and techniques.

Experience with DoD Architecture Framework and related DoD network architecture and strategic planning instructions.

Experience with Cisco and Juniper devices (switches, routers, cryptographic devices, IPSEC).

Experience with network analysis tools (Cisco Network Analysis Modules, SolarWinds, OPNET NetOne, HP Network Node Manager, etc.).

Experience with Cisco and Juniper firewall/VPN devices.

Experience supporting IP services on NIPRNET, SIPRNET and JWICS (IPv4, VPN, IPv6, multicast, QoS, SDN, SNMP, VOIP, VTC, etc.).

Experience with BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
