The Recreation Division prides itself on providing excellent customer service and designing programs and services to meet the needs of the residents in the City of Stockton.

The Recreation Manager oversees the operations of the City’s recreation programs and facilities, providing leadership in planning, implementation, and evaluation of a broad range of recreational services for children, youth, and adults. The incumbent is responsible for developing division goals and objectives, supervising professional and support staff, managing the division’s budget, and ensuring effective day-to-day operations.

Working with considerable administrative discretion and independent judgment, the Recreation Manager coordinates closely with other City departments, community organizations, and public officials to deliver high-quality, inclusive recreation services.

Key responsibilities include implementing long-range plans, evaluating community recreation needs, developing and improving programs, recruiting and training staff and volunteers, and preparing reports and operational manuals.

Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service system, in a "for-cause" employment status, and represented by the Mid-Management/Supervisory bargaining unit. (Classified/Represented)

The incumbent will work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Schedule may be subject to change. May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends to provide operational support.

Education/Experience:

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, or a related field; AND three (3) years of supervisory experience in recreation which has included recreation program planning and administration.

Other Requirements:

Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
