Battery Energy Storage | Systems Engineering | Technical Product Management | Product Strategy Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
About Us:
Anode exists to accelerate the monumental shift away from the supersystem of extraction, processing, and burning of fossil fuels — toward lightweight capture and consumption from entirely renewable sources. While decarbonization seems beyond our horizon, we remain undaunted — the long arc of energy consumption must bend toward sustainability. We believe in energy from renewable sources, seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The future is silent, efficient, zero-emission, flexible, distributed, and clean.
Position Overview:
Anode is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to drive design improvements and resolve engineering challenges across our mobile battery energy storage platform. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role responsible for implementing design solutions to address a known backlog of mechanical engineering improvements, optimizing existing subsystems, and supporting rapid iteration from prototype to production.
You will work across the full mBESS system—from primary structures to power electronics packaging—applying strong CAD and mechanical design skills to improve performance, manufacturability, and reliability. This role emphasizes practical problem‑solving and design execution with the goal of taking our foundational designs and making them better.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Implementation & Improvement : Execute mechanical design improvements across multiple subsystems to resolve known issues, enhance performance, and improve manufacturability. Work from existing design intent and engineering requirements to deliver production‑ready solutions.
CAD Execution & Documentation : Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks. Create comprehensive documentation including tolerance studies, assembly instructions, and design specifications to support prototyping and production.
Cross‑System Design Work : Tackle mechanical design challenges throughout the full mBESS platform—including enclosures, mounting systems, thermal management, cable routing, structural components, and integration hardware.
Issue Resolution & Optimization : Work through a prioritized backlog of mechanical design issues identified through prototyping, testing, and field experience. Diagnose root causes, propose solutions, and implement design changes quickly and effectively.
Design for Manufacturability : Optimize designs for fabrication, assembly, and cost—working closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are practical, producible, and scalable.
Prototyping & Validation Support : Support prototype builds, lab testing, and field validation activities. Document performance against specifications, identify areas for improvement, and iterate designs based on test results.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Partner with systems engineers, electrical engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers, and supply chain to ensure mechanical designs integrate seamlessly with overall system architecture and meet performance requirements.
Supplier & Manufacturing Coordination : Work directly with fabricators, machine shops, and contract manufacturers to clarify design intent, resolve manufacturing questions, and ensure quality and delivery of components.
Qualifications
Must Have:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
5+ years of mechanical design experience in hardware or electromechanical product development
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD software and PDM/PLM systems
Strong practical design skills across a range of mechanical and electromechanical systems including structures, enclosures, fastening, and environmental sealing methods
Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
Proficiency in designing sheet metal, machined, and welded components & structures
Ability to create, read, and interpret engineering 2D drawings, 3D Model-Based Definition (MBD) and GD&T IAW various ASME Y14.X standards
Hands‑on experience with prototyping, various low and high QTY fabrication methods, and materials selection
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, execute quickly in a fast‑paced environment while communicating effectively
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred:
Experience with battery systems, power electronics, or energy storage applications
Automotive, industrial equipment, or heavy‑duty hardware product development experience
Proficiency in structural FEA, thermal analysis, or CFD simulation
Proficiency in designing molded plastics and 3D printed parts
Experience working with contract manufacturers and managing supplier relationships
Understanding of environmental and reliability testing for electromechanical systems
Knowledge of relevant industry standards and certifications (UL, IEC, NFPA, etc.)
Why This Role Matters
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Anode, you will directly impact product quality, manufacturability, and reliability by solving real engineering challenges and improving existing designs. Your work will enable our team to move from prototype to production with confidence, turning design intent into robust, cost‑effective hardware. This is a foundational engineering role where your contributions will be immediately visible and essential to delivering world‑class mobile battery energy storage systems.
