Summary This is an open continuous announcement and will remain open until September 30, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications and subsequent cut-off dates are on the first of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.

Base Pay Range $340,000.00 / year – $400,000.00 / year

Qualifications

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA approved school for the year of completion.

Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.

Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Physicians currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency program who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred: Board certified or eligible in Emergency Care by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine; two years of Emergency Medicine experience.

Eligible applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position, including vision, hearing, and speech as required, or be able to compensate for impairments with prosthesis or aids.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform assessments and examinations on all presenting patients in the ED.

Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the ED evaluation.

Provide attending physician oversight to residents and mid-level providers as applicable.

Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients.

Determine whether admission to the hospital is necessary or if patients may be safely discharged from the ED with appropriate follow-up.

Discuss treatment plans with patients and/or family or caregivers in accordance with COBRA guidelines.

Perform medication reconciliation with all patients.

Participate in quality assurance activities, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures.

Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate.

Support the safety, occupational health, and fire protection program by applying approved standards, regulations, and practices.

Report to the Assistant Chief – Medical Service.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week; on-call as needed – evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
