Role Overview Head of Risk (Non-Financial)

– The chief risk strategist at Gemini, responsible for building and executing a global risk management strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across the risk function.

Responsibilities

Recommend, build, and execute enterprise risk management and mitigation strategies that meet regulatory requirements.

Ensure risk management aligns with the company’s risk appetite.

Conduct enterprise risk assessments, including new product evaluations.

Oversee the company’s issue management framework.

Facilitate external assessments such as SOC 1 examinations.

Manage the risk governance, risk, and compliance tool and catalog the organization’s risk and control library.

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements, risk ownership, and ensure senior management is informed.

Provide regular reporting to senior management and the board on risk exposures and appetite performance.

Set vision and goals for the risk team, develop, lead, and motivate the team.

Drive innovation and enhance efficiency in all risk processes.

Offer proactive risk management advice to key stakeholders.

Stay abreast of key developments in the global risk landscape.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or related field.

10+ years of risk management experience, preferably in financial services or cryptocurrency.

Knowledge of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and broader financial markets.

Understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in fintech.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with external regulators and auditors.

Leadership experience and ability to mentor a team of risk professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

Risk management experience in the cryptocurrency industry.

Strong project management skills.

Experience with selection and ongoing monitoring of critical vendor relationships.

Experience in credit risk management.

Salary Range : $178,750 – $275,000 (base) in New York, California, and Washington. The range excludes bonuses and equity.
