$135,300.00/yr - $260,350.00/yr . Individual compensation will be based on skills, experience, and the candidate’s qualifications.

Claims Legal Counsel – Enterprise Litigation and Investigations Division GEICO is seeking a Claims Legal Counsel to advise claims organizations on insurance coverage and claims‑related litigation arising from personal auto insurance policies. The candidate will identify, develop, and maintain the company’s position on claims‑related litigation, bad faith claims, and extra‑contractual matters. The role will partner closely with business teams and provide practical legal advice on highly complex claims and major litigation. Additional duties may be assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide legal advice to the claims organization on claims of heightened complexity, bad faith, coverage, and extra‑contractual allegations.

Perform factual and legal research and analysis.

Review documents at the request of Legal Department management.

Develop and conduct in‑house presentations on research projects.

Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

5–7 years of litigation management experience at a law firm, government, or in‑house role.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.

Up‑to‑date understanding of key legal issues germane to an organization.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non‑lawyers.

Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.

Trial and/or appellate experience.

Experience working as a Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company.

Experience handling bad faith or extra‑contractual litigation against an insurance company.

Preferred Qualifications

A background in insurance coverage and litigation.

Experience working with cross‑functional teams, both legal and non‑legal.

Federal or State court clerkship.

Hybrid In‑Office Work Schedule 3 days per week in office required. This position is available in the Chevy Chase, MD; New York, NY; or Cleveland, OH offices.

Annual Salary $135,300.00 – $260,350.00. Multiple factors influence the final offer, including scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, training, work location, and market considerations.
