Description
As a SQL Server Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing on‑premises SQL databases that support web applications. Your role will ensure high performance, availability, security, and sustainability of database systems through proactive maintenance and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Database Management & Maintenance
Configure, install, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in a production environment.
Monitor database performance and conduct tuning procedures to ensure optimal operation.
Create and manage scheduled jobs, data extracts, refreshes, loads, and replication processes.
Performance, Availability & Security
Ensure high levels of database performance, availability, and data integrity.
Implement and manage high availability solutions such as Always On and SQL clustering.
Apply Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and manage encrypted database backups and restores.
Replication & Automation
Develop and implement merge and transactional replication strategies.
Automate routine database tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Troubleshooting & Optimization
Diagnose and resolve issues related to performance, blocking/deadlocks, replication, connectivity, and security.
Perform data modeling, query optimization, and analysis of customer‑provided data.
Reporting & Analysis
Write SQL queries and reports using existing data.
Create and update records based on business requirements.
Governance & Documentation
Develop and enforce database policies and procedures to maintain system integrity and compliance.
Maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server in application support or development environments.
Strong proficiency in SQL Server 2016 and newer versions.
Deep understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices.
Skilled in T‑SQL including indexes, triggers, functions, stored procedures, and packages.
Experience with SQL Server replication (merge and transactional).
Familiarity with SSAS (Analysis Services), SSIS (Integration Services), and SSRS (Reporting Services).
Proficient in Windows Server operating systems.
Security & Availability
Hands‑on experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
Strong knowledge of backup strategies, restore procedures, and recovery models.
Experience implementing high availability solutions (Always On, clustering).
Soft Skills & Collaboration
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Ability to work effectively in agile, cross‑functional development teams.
Certifications & Clearance
SQL Server certification.
CompTIA Security+ certification.
Must hold an ACTIVE Secret Clearance or higher.
