Innovate Alabama is the first statewide public-private partnership within the state of Alabama focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology. Formed by Gov. Kay Ivey, Innovate Alabama is tasked with collaborating across sectors to advance industries, drive technology, and facilitate an environment where innovation and entrepreneurship thrive.
In 2020 and 2021, Innovate Alabama partnered with Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Stanford University’s Hoover Institution to conduct comprehensive research, listen to entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state, and develop forward-thinking policy recommendations to create a more resilient, inclusive, and robust economy for Alabama to remain competitive in a 21st century world. In December 2021, Innovate Alabama delivered a comprehensive report of these recommendations to Gov. Ivey. Now, under the leadership of CEO Cynthia Crutchfield and the board of directors, Innovate Alabama exists to implement these recommendations, help innovators grow roots in Alabama, and continue to serve the state’s innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Innovate Alabama is looking for exceptional talent to join our team. Under the direction of the Executive Director, Alabama SSBCI, we are searching for an Investment Analyst to play a vital role in executing Innovate Alabama’s InvestAL programs— Direct Investment and Fund of Funds. This position will play a key role in supporting deal flow, day-to-day program operations, data collection, and outreach efforts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-day program operations, including research, investment memo preparation, deal flow tracking, and communication
Conduct due diligence on venture capital funds and co-investment opportunities.
Data collection for compliance and performance reporting requirements
Collaborate with fund managers, entrepreneurs, and government partners to achieve program goals
Program outreach and engagement, as needed
First line of defense for compliance and risk
Other strategic support as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience (a combination of training and experience may be substituted for a degree)
Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and analytical techniques
Knowledge of venture capital fund structures and early-stage investment processes
Strong written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience and strong relationships with Alabama entrepreneurial/innovation community
Experience with U.S. Department of the Treasury and SSBCI Program guidelines and compliance
Experience executing Federal programs focused on small businesses and/or startups
Experience with technology platforms for financial program management
Experience executing federal programs focused on small business support
Experience with finance/investment industry
WORK ENVIRONMENT This position operates in a professional office environment, with a hybrid work schedule. Occasional travel within Alabama is required to meet stakeholders and represent LendAL at events.
