The plant Cost Accountant supports the plant operations team by providing accounting support that accurately documents operations costs in the financial reporting system. He or she will assist management with the identification, development and implementation of procedures that improve utilization of raw materials to minimize cost. This position reports to the Finance Administration Manager (FAM).
Responsibilities
Ownership of plant standard cost system, providing insight and analysis of drivers of performance
Assist corporate cost accounting team with review and input to the monthly standard cost update and review all facility BOMs for accuracy
Daily review and control of clerical entries related to production and inventory transactions
Reconcile invoices, apply accurate G/L codes and cost centers, and data entry of invoices into ERP system for processing
Effectively coordinate and communicate with cross‑functional departments as needed
Prepare and analyze daily material yield and loss
Assist department management with development procedures that improve the accuracy of functional performance reporting and identify opportunities for further cost reduction across the operation
Participate in development of data‑driven, fact‑based information to support decisions enabling productivity measures to reduce overall cost
Facilitate the monthly physical inventory process
Sustain and improve internal control environment
Play a critical role in the month‑end closing process; preparing journal entries for approval and investigating variances
Ensure compliance with all Saputo corporate policies and procedures
Actively apply Saputo values and comply with the Saputo Code of Ethics
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Hands on experience with plant standard cost system
Experience reviewing BOMs for accuracy and participating in standard cost updates
Strong understanding of production and inventory accounting
Proficiency with ERP systems, including accurate data entry and cost allocation
Excellent communication and coordination skills for cross‑functional collaboration
Ability to analyze material yield, loss, and cost drivers
Experience in process improvement and cost reduction initiatives
Knowledge of month‑end closing, journal entry preparation, and variance analysis
Understanding of internal controls and regulatory compliance
Commitment to Saputo core values and the Saputo Code of Ethics
