Overview This work involves supervising swimming activities, life guarding, and providing swimming instruction. The incumbent ensures implementation of departmental program policies, objectives, and plans. This work is performed under general supervision.
Typical Work Activities
Assists in teaching Starfish (SAI) Swim School Curriculum
Formulates daily instructional aquatic lesson programs
Plans and organizes water sports programs
Assists in teaching Swim Team program and/or any other after school activities
Delivers orientation on swimming to new groups of swimmers
Assists with record‑keeping and reports of swimming activities
Keeps constant surveillance of pool area and activities
Assists to assure safety and cleanliness of pool area
Work with special‑needs population
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good knowledge of the principles of recreation with special reference to the teaching of swimming and proactive lifeguarding
High degree of skill in swimming and life‑saving
Working knowledge of chemical pool operation
Working knowledge of modern recreational practices
Ability to communicate effectively

Neatness of appearance
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
Special Requirements
Must have a valid lifeguard certification
Must be certified in AED, CPR, and First Aid
