OSP Technicians will help manage the day-to-day operations of fiber optic drop cable both aerial and buried. This position will work closely with contractor or internal crews that will be installing the drops and will include the scheduling of drop installs based on the directions from the Sales Department. This position will perform quality inspections of the drop installation, be responsible for running the splitter jumpers in the FDH cabinets, and testing light at the NID on the side of the home. This position will document any changes that are needed in our GIS mapping tools and will update WebTop when the installation is complete and has been tested. These Technicians will also document all connections and the units placed in Smartsheets.
This position will be considered an employee of Crossbeam, which is the fiber to the home division of SyncGlobal Telecom.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
OSP experience with aerial and underground construction and line locating
Fiber optic splicing and testing
Job Responsibilities and Skills Responsibilities:
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
Maintain compliance with all company/safety policies and procedures
Maintain good customer relations with the homeowner/customer.
Must be able to schedule contractors according to direction from the Sales Department
Train new employees on daily job functions
Interpret work drawings and instructions and complete necessary paperwork.
Inspect the installation of both aerial and buried drops.
Treat customer property as if it is your own and make sure all contractors do the same.
Operate hand tools, computer, I-pad, GIS mapping tools, VFL, OTDR, Power Meter.
Run fiber optic jumpers, label fiber optic jumpers and document every connection in Smartsheets.
Inspect both aerial and buried mainline routes and existing drops while in the field.
Always use the correct tool for the job at hand.
Always ensure that tools are returned to the correct location and report any tools that need to be replaced.
Operate fusion splice machine and be able to install splice on connectors.
Know how to splice on a live fiber optic cable, this includes reading the splice drawings.
Know how to safely operate a bucket truck.
Know the Dangers Above of power poles
Know the construction principals for placing fiber optic cables aerial and underground.
Responsible for keeping all tools and vehicles in a state of readiness.
Responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with other utility companies
Know how to operate line locating equipment of underground facilities.
Understand the SyncGlobal marking standard
Must be able to work independently or cooperatively with supervision as part of a team.
Always keep your supervisor informed of progress, problems and safety concerns.
Always keep your supervisor informed of any improvements that can be made in safety, locating or construction.
Skills:
Distinguish colors, colors present in color-coded cable and fine print.
Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers via telephone or in-person interactions.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary quality and customer service.
Safely drive company vehicles while pulling trailers.
Supply and maintain satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
Have the ability to learn new skills both on the job and in the classroom.
Be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
Be able to listen well and speak clearly.
Have the physical ability to perform manual labor, digging, climbing, pulling cable, lifting, squatting, pushing, pulling and bending to floor.
Able to work long hours doing manual labor outdoors in all types of weather.
Willing and able to work long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as required by the workload.
Have sufficient hand strength and dexterity to use industry specific tools.
Able to climb ladders safely by maintaining balance and be able to carry material while climbing ladders (individual weight limit of 300 pounds which includes 25 pound tool carriage)
Able to safely climb poles while maintaining balance.
