Job Description The Senior Director of Procurement provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all procurement functions supporting nuclear reactor design, manufacturing, and EPC project delivery. This role ensures compliance with customer contracting requirements, nuclear quality standards, and company policies while driving cost efficiency, process excellence, supply assurance, and supplier performance. The Senior Director will oversee procurement and subcontract award, subcontract management, and supplier performance across domestic and international supply bases to support X-energy projects around the world.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Lead transformation of the X-energy procurement process to support scale and efficiency for nuclear reactor manufacturing, construction, and delivery programs.
Lead procurement planning and execution across customer contracts, ensuring alignment with project schedules, budgets, and technical requirements.
Partner with the category team to direct supplier development and strategic sourcing initiatives to mitigate supply chain risks and ensure long‑term sustainability.
Partner with executive leadership to align procurement objectives with company goals in safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
Federal and Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all procurement activities comply with customer, government and other applicable contract requirements.
Maintain adherence to ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, and other quality assurance standards for nuclear-grade materials and components.
Develop and enforce internal policies for procurement ethics, small business utilization, and flow-down of mandatory contract requirements.
Project Procurement
Oversee procurement planning, bid evaluation, and award of major subcontracts and purchase orders supporting complex design and construction projects.
Manage procurement of engineered equipment, long‑lead nuclear components, engineering and technical services, and bulk materials.
Lead development and deployment of industry‑leading procurement practices at X-energy.
Collaborate with project management, engineering, and construction teams to optimize material planning, logistics, and supplier performance.
Monitor and resolve cost, schedule, and technical performance issues in coordination with project teams and vendors.
Supplier Management and Performance
Build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships to support innovation, cost savings, and reliability in nuclear component manufacturing.
Drive supplier diversity and small business subcontracting goals in accordance with federal requirements.
Team Leadership
Lead and develop a team of procurement and subcontract administrators.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Implement modern procurement systems and digital tools to improve efficiency, visibility, and compliance.
Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
Certification such as CPSM, CPM, or PMP desirable.
Typically requires 17+ years of progressive experience in procurement, supply chain or subcontract management roles.
Minimum 7 years in leadership positions supporting major capital projects.
Experience in nuclear, defense, or highly regulated industries required.
Proven expertise in compliance, cost‑reimbursable contracts, and supplier quality management.
Strong background managing global supply bases for complex engineered systems or large‑scale construction projects.
Deep understanding of federal and commercial procurement processes, contract types and compliance frameworks.
Exceptional negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to build and transform procurement processes.
Proficiency with ERP and procurement systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, SAP, Oracle).
Compensation As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC lists the expected compensation range for this publicly advertised position based upon the job requirements.
Estimated salary range: $204,300 – $274,000.
