Summary As an FSQ Senior Tech, you assist FSQ management in maintaining and improving overall product quality and safety. You ensure effective completion and documentation of FSQ responsibilities, lead and direct department technicians to reduce and resolve quality and food safety metrics, and handle leadership responsibilities in the absence of FSQ Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee daily review of HACCP, SSOP, and other quality‑related records to ensure conformance.
Take action when non‑conformances are noted, including initiating investigations, placing affected product on hold, and determining final disposition in compliance with USDA and FDA regulations.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities in programs and tasks.
Oversee document control and system updates, coordinating all HACCP plan and related paperwork updates.
Oversee reporting and auditing of QPE and Packout audits.
Assist Quality Management with verification and validation by designing studies, interpreting data, and finalizing reports.
Conduct trend analysis for food safety and quality initiatives, communicate findings to Management, and implement actions based on analysis.
Initiate tests, analyze results, and resolve technical problems.
Collaborate with Operations to ensure continuous improvement.
Lead and direct shift FSQ technicians, coordinating assignment and completion of daily and non‑daily tasks.
Observe production activities to ensure consistency and conformance to standards, providing improvement suggestions.
Work with FSQ management to resolve issues and reduce defects.
Interpret testing data in correlation with production specifications and make decisions based on that information.
If assigned to the raw material lab, perform raw material testing and analysis, hold management, investigate non‑conforming raw material, create NCRs, conduct prep‑inspection activities, maintain the finished product ON HOLD database, monitor and trend customer/consumer complaints, perform root‑cause analysis, and coordinate corrective actions.
Develop, update, and maintain finished product specifications in the internal system and external customer databases.
Oversee the organic program through formulation review, supplier specification review, and certification review, liaising with the organic certifying body.
Act as liaison for USDA/FDA inspectors.
Perform other duties of similar skill, work conditions, and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A.A.) in a related field or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or 3+ years of related quality assurance experience.
Capable of obtaining HACCP certification within six months of hire and implementing SQF Systems within one year.
Valid driver's license; subject to pre‑employment and annual Motor Vehicle Record screening and personal automobile insurance coverage in accordance with Blount Fine Foods Employee Handbook.
