Paralegal – Birmingham Location: Birmingham, AL | Salary: $50,000 – $55,000

Position Summary We have an opportunity for an experienced Paralegal to join our Labor & Employment practice. The Paralegal researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist attorneys. The Paralegal also independently researches and analyzes law sources—statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes—to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and appeals for review, approval, and use by attorneys.

Essential Functions

Research law, investigate facts, and independently prepare documents for attorneys.

Summarize complex legal documents.

Organize and index case files.

Determine and calendar deadlines.

Perform wide variety of legal research and data compilation with little or no supervision.

File pleadings with court clerk.

Prepare reports, correspondence, declarations, and complaints.

Draft a variety of legal documents.

Prepare affidavits or documents and maintain document file.

Prepare for mediations and trials.

Assist attorneys at trial.

Assist attorney in preparation for depositions.

Communicate with witnesses and experts.

Schedule and enter billing and expense data into firm system in a timely manner.

Requirements

Paralegal certification or degree from an accredited college or university.

6+ years of paralegal experience, preferably in labor/employment litigation practice.

Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and legal research systems (Lexis‑Nexis, WestLaw, Live Note, Concordance, Case Map, Docketing, Document Management System, expense and billing systems).
