Assistant Public Defender in Savannah, Georgia
Position Description: The Eastern Judicial Circuit, a single‑county circuit encompassing Savannah, seeks multiple attorneys to represent indigent clients through all phases of criminal proceedings. Positions are available in both Superior and Juvenile Courts.
About The Office Our office includes dedicated divisions for Major Crimes, Other Felonies, Early Intervention (arrest through preliminary hearing), Juvenile, and Appellate. We emphasize zealous, holistic representation and a team‑based approach. Staff includes Investigators, Social Workers, and a Mental Health Advocate Attorney. We provide in‑house training and mentoring, and the office covers State Bar dues as well as CLE and seminar fees.
Responsibilities
Zealously represent indigent clients at the appropriate stages of the criminal process, depending on division assignment.
Identify and pursue referrals to accountability courts and social services when appropriate.
Assist in training and mentoring newer attorneys.
Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense or comparable public service.
Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
Compensation $85,000–$125,000, commensurate with experience.
