Pay Range $23.03/hr – $29.49/hr
Position Summary KIND seeks a Paralegal to support the delivery of legal services through case support tasks in coordination with attorneys. Responsibilities include client intakes, legal research, preparing immigration forms, drafting affidavits, maintaining files, hearing preparation, social services referrals, and related duties. The Paralegal reports to a Staff or Senior Attorney and the position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions
Conduct client phone screenings, intake interviews, and draft intake memoranda.
Assist attorneys with legal research, filling out immigration benefits and standard forms, drafting affidavits and basic motions, and preparing for hearings and interviews.
Maintain case files and data entry in the case management database.
Act as point of contact for clients, ensuring case files and the case management system reflect current contact information and status updates on case developments and children’s wellbeing.
Conduct regular check‑ins with children for direct representation cases and update attorney and senior paralegal on new developments.
Assist in case audit efforts for pro‑bono cases, ensuring updates from pro‑bono attorneys regarding case status and children’s wellbeing are timely and accurately recorded.
Conduct initial assessment of case referrals received against case acceptance criteria and program priorities.
Ensure appropriate processing and data entry for referrals and intakes.
Liaise with Social Services Coordinators regarding social services needs and referrals and assist with social services projects as office needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or one year of relevant experience; high school diploma with at least five years of relevant experience.
Fluent in English and Spanish (required for direct communication with children and caregivers).
Minimum of one year of experience working with children, preferably at‑risk youth, immigrants or refugee children.
Minimum of one year of experience conducting legal intakes or interviewing children in a professional setting.
Excellent organizational, time management skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to travel locally as assigned.
Ability to work within an office environment and have regular interaction via telephone, videoconference, IM, and email with KIND’s team.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, etc.).
Ability to work collaboratively and multitask in a fast‑paced environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.

Experience working and communicating in a remote environment preferred but not required.
