Communications Technician 2
is responsible for the installation and assisting with Planning & Layout of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. As a technician, you should have work experience installing basic equipment, involving the use of hand tools and power tools, a basic understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints, and knowledge of codes and standards. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full-time employees with company benefits. Job Requirements
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Knowledge and safe use of hand tools and various power tools Wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Following safety policies and procedures Actively participating in daily safety and work briefings Installation of various types of low voltage cable Installation, inspection, terminating, testing, troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as: Various pathways and cable tray Various cabinets and racks Various telecommunications devices Prefabricated components and assemblies Telecommunications grounding systems Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices Sketch rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations Train and supervise apprentices in a team environment, ensuring cables are installed methodically and arranged properly at Telecommunication Rooms (TR) and work area outlets (WAO) Perform quality assurance checks of team’s work to ensure compliance with all requirements Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site cleanup Secure company tools and materials daily Travel up to 25%, which may include domestic and/or international trips Ability to obtain a Secret clearance Qualifications / Skills Sets / Expectations
At least 4 years of prior experience in the commercial communications industry Must be 18 years or older High school diploma or GED required Excellent safety record, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record Reliable transportation to and from the job site Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test Experience reading and understanding plans and specifications Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills Punctuality and teamwork skills Wear long pants and a shirt that covers shoulders (not provided by the company) Provide basic tools from the provided list before the first day of employment Physical Abilities
Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance Works at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders Performs routine physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, crawling, and reaching Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, and the ability to hear and communicate in English May use standard ladders with tools within weight limits Recognizes potential problems (problem recognition, not solving) Applies general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers Identifies relationships among seemingly unrelated events Sees details at close range Understands spoken words and sentences Desired Skills
Active security clearance Valid passport and willingness to travel overseas BICSI credentials, including Technician Manufacturer certifications and/or fiber certification Experience with Microsoft Office applications
