Overview
Project Manager II
– Role located in Montgomery, AL. Responsible for planning and overseeing a wide variety of control system projects; from proposal generation through closeout. Coordinates internal and external personnel to complete projects on time and under budget. Undertakes strategic projects, or multiple projects of varying size. Works with technical staff and seeks guidance from experienced project leads, company directors, and principals. Provides guidance and training to junior project managers.
What You’ll Do
Project & Commercial Delivery Build, baseline, and manage realistic integrated schedules; drive schedule fidelity and recovery plans. Own monthly forecasting (cost, revenue, cash) with clear variance narratives; manage WIP and margin. Create/manage scope for subcontractors; lead change order strategy, pricing, and administration. Anticipate risks; develop mitigation plans; consistently meet/exceed client expectations. Ensure contract/spec alignment and practice our Quality Management System (QMS) daily. Maintain crisp documentation and precise proofreading on all deliverables.
Installation & Commissioning Leadership Lead field execution for controls/automation installation, coordinating closely with electrical/mechanical partners. Direct commissioning strategy and resources (L1–L3); interface with third-party commissioning agents for higher levels. Enforce quality and safety standards on site. Customer & Partner Leadership: Communicate proactively and positively with customers and trade partners; build durable relationships that lead to repeat work. Identify opportunities for added scope and referrals; anticipate evolving customer needs.
Technical & Field Engagement Leverage strong field experience across related trades; jump in alongside technical staff when needed. Apply working knowledge of integrated automation/controls and how it interfaces with electrical and mechanical systems, with a focus on process integrity and safety. Demonstrate hands-on mechanical aptitude and fluency with Microsoft OS/Office tools.
People & Culture Provide day-to-day direction for a team of PMs and site teams; set priorities, coach, and develop talent. What You Bring
Skills & Experience Mastery of core commercial duties: scheduling (e.g., MS Project/Primavera), forecasting (cost/revenue/cash), WIP, margin management, and change control—with examples you can speak to. Track record of driving projects to completion and building trust with customers/contractors. Ability to scope work, estimate duration/difficulty, and produce accurate monthly projections. Strong communicator who networks effectively and conveys ideas that land. Demonstrated ability to identify/mitigate risk and uphold safety and quality requirements. Open-minded, receptive to opposing viewpoints, and quick to adapt.
Education And Experience Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or related discipline) or equivalent technical experience. 8–10+ years total experience with 5+ years managing projects in mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, life sciences, district energy). Proven success leading/building teams.

Excellent field experience and understands the roles of associated trades. Shows initiative by seeking out new responsibilities. Builds relationships with customers and contractors. Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft operating systems and Office tools. Demonstrate the ability to assist other project members during system installation and commissioning. Possess and apply strong hands-on mechanical capabilities. Understands control system design and how it interfaces with other systems. Understands electrical and mechanical system design and how decisions can impact process and safety. Practice procedures outlined in the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) daily. Demonstrate the ability to proof-read all project related documentation. Champions safety policies in the office and the field. Has an open mind, especially with opposing viewpoints; adapts to changing demands. Understands and enforces quality requirements on subcontractors.
Project Management Responsibilities
Communicate in an effective, positive, and proactive manner with customers and trade partners. Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget. Understand the scope of work assigned, identify issues beyond scope, and resolve them with customer and team. Seeks opportunities for new work with customers and contractors. Understands and anticipates customer needs; meets and exceeds client expectations. Accurately estimates the duration and difficulty of tasks. Provides accurate project forecasts and projections. Anticipates possible issues and plans solutions; monitors progress and adjusts as required. Ensures the team adheres to a realistic schedule and budget. Capable of creating scope of work for subcontractors and overseeing execution of subcontractor contracts. Participates in the generation and administration of change orders. Demonstrates awareness of project contracts and specifications. Promotes a positive/collaborative team culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Where applicable, directs and oversees junior or subordinate staff regarding construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks at a project site.
