Compliance Manager Birmingham Hybrid Plus company Bonus up to 37 days holiday We are seeking a proactive and experienced Compliance Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of regulatory compliance within our firm. As a key player in our compliance team, you will ensure that the firm consistently meets its obligations under the SRA Standards and Regulations, anti-money laundering legislation, data protection requirements, and other relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, you will take the lead in the handling and resolution of client complaints. This is an excellent opportunity for a compliance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to play a crucial role in fostering a strong compliance culture across the firm. While this role does not currently involve acting as COLP or COFA, you will work closely with those designated individuals and senior stakeholders to ensure compliance is embedded into all aspects of the firm’s operations. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and maintain firm-wide compliance policies, procedures, and controls in line with regulatory requirements. Monitor and ensure compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations, AML, GDPR, and other relevant legislation. Manage responses to regulatory changes, ensuring the firm remains compliant and up to date. Lead the handling, investigation, and resolution of client complaints, ensuring compliance with Legal Ombudsman requirements. Manage internal processes related to potential and actual professional negligence claims. Conduct regular internal audits and compliance reviews across departments and offices. Provide ongoing training and guidance to staff at all levels on compliance matters. Work closely with COLP, COFA, MLRO, and the Operations Board to maintain a robust risk and compliance framework. Liaise with external regulators, auditors, and other stakeholders. Maintain and monitor firm-wide registers (e.g., breaches, complaints, undertakings, training). Support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and assist with managing professional indemnity insurance renewals. Skills & Experience: Proven experience in a compliance role within the UK legal sector. Strong knowledge of SRA Standards and Regulations, GDPR, AML legislation, and other relevant regulatory frameworks. Experience managing and resolving client complaints within a professional services setting. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels. Skilled in delivering compliance training and embedding a compliance culture. Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and mitigate risks proactively. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
