Overview
Daifuku Airport America Corporation is a subsidiary of Daifuku North America a group company of Daifuku in Japan – the largest material handling company in the world. Our advanced systems move everything from car bodies at auto plants to luggage at airports to packaged goods at warehouses. We are known as experts in engineering, manufacturing, and servicing innovative automated materials handling systems including conveyors, automatic guided vehicles, automated storage & retrieval systems, and integrated controls. The company is currently seeking an experienced Buyer.Reporting to the Materials Manager, purchases equipment, materials, supplies, and services. Researches, evaluates, and buys products to meet daily operational needs. Evaluates suppliers, negotiates contracts and reviews quality of products.
Responsibilities
Purchases commodities and services to meet specialized or complex needs
Makes purchase decisions in accordance with company procedures and regulations
Analyzes purchase requisitions and review for accuracy and completion
Collaborates with department managers to clarify purchase requisitions, identify department needs, and refine specifications for future purchase orders
Follow proper procedures to obtain purchase authorization according to company policy
Investigate and obtain new sources for suppliers and products
Research and prepare bid specifications
Issue bid requests to vendors and suppliers
Review quotes and secure the most competitive bids
Identify and select vendors and suppliers using criteria such as quantity and quality of commodities, price, and delivery date
Explain and clarify purchasing procedures to internal departments as well as vendor
Determine correct method to process purchase requisitions depending on total cost, timeliness, competitive bidding, and existing contracts
Place orders to procure requisitioned items or services
Solve problems with orders in an efficient and timely manner
Knowledge
Knowledge of basic math and its applications
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting qualify standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air and road including the relative costs and benefits
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Comprehensive knowledge of commodities in area of specialization
Skills & Abilities
Ability to exercise independent judgement
Willingness to take initiative
Exemplary interpersonal skills
Ability to thrive in a high stress and fast paced environment
SAP experience a real plus
Ability to work with a team
Qualifications
Associates Degree or 2-5 years’ experience in a design to order manufacturing environment
Excellent verbal, written and negotiation skills
Previous buying experience strongly preferred, or ability to demonstrate comparable knowledge and skills
SAP experience a real plus
