Support Coordinator - PMOB Oncology and Treatment Center - Full Time 8 Hour Days

Overview
The Support Coordinator will assist with all aspects of patient care in a multispecialty practice. Responsibilities include coordinating clinic schedules, patient appointments and follow-up, answering patient phone calls, verifying insurance benefits, preparing charts and charge tickets for clinic visits, and coordinating scheduling of surgeries and diagnostic testing. The role also supports front and back office administrative duties, acts as a liaison between the clinic and referring physicians, and helps manage patient flow and experience. The position may require coverage at other satellite clinics as needed and may involve other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
Clerical tasks and thorough use of computer systems (e.g., Cerner); ensure accuracy in data entry.
Process new referrals in a timely manner: obtain outside medical records, enter demographics, provide records to the physician/clinical team, verify insurance and obtain authorization for visits and procedures.
Schedule patient evaluations and clinic appointments in a timely manner, including laboratories, diagnostic testing, and consultations; support department scheduling procedures.
Proactively manage clinic schedules to create a well-managed operational flow and positive patient experience.
Coordinate scheduling of diagnostic testing and send letters of medical necessity as needed.
Assist in the clinic with clerical and scheduling needs, including filing and collecting supporting documentation for billing.
Provide phone coverage as needed and manage communications with medical personnel via multiple channels; respond to messages and voicemail per protocol.
Deliver patient customer service with courtesy, compassion, and professionalism; greet patients and act as a single point of contact for patients and caregivers.
Work independently and in a team,flexible to cover other staff as needed, and maintain open communication with management and staff.
Assist with financial aspects: complete financial risk assessments, explain insurance benefits and potential funding, and refer to financial counselors as appropriate; provide estimates of patient liabilities.
Facilitate communication among the care team and patients; protect patient confidentiality and adhere to policies.
Demonstrate adaptability to changes within the USC healthcare system and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Effective English communication skills (verbal and written)
Proven customer service experience
Familiarity with word processing, Microsoft Outlook, Cerner, Centricity, PBAR, and scheduling systems; ability to navigate intranet and online queries
Excellent communication skills and comfort with computers and medical terminology; knowledge of various insurance types
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in customer service or medical office
Experience in acute or ambulatory care settings (entry level accepted)
Knowledge of insurance billing, admitting, or registration; understanding of major insurance plans and government programs
Bi-lingual abilities (Mandarin or Spanish highly desirable)
Required Licenses/Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if not on hire, must obtain within 30 days and maintain renewal (LA City only)
