Overview

Forensic Evaluator role at Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (Western State Hospital). This is a full-time position. Responsibilities

Provide forensic assessments (e.g., Competency to Stand Trial, Mental State at the Time of the Offense, Commissioner-Appointed NGRI Temporary Custody and Second Opinion Evaluations) for defendants and NGRI acquittees ordered to inpatient treatment at a state facility. Conduct a range of forensic and psychological assessments, including general psychological assessments, malingering/feigning tests, and psychological screenings. Offer treatment team consultation, consult with executive staff on forensic processes and policies, and participate in program development for pretrial defendants. Provide court testimony and forensic administrative support as needed. Serve as expert witness when subpoenaed; collaborate with Forensic Coordinators, Psychology Director, Forensic General Administrative Coordinator, Forensic Specialist, WSH admissions office, treatment teams, and courts to manage report due dates. Supervise and review work products of Forensic Post-Doctoral Residents (e.g., CST, MSO evaluations); address issues with Forensic Coordinators and General Administrative Coordinator. Integrate evidence-based practices, expert guidelines, professional literature, and relevant case law into forensic evaluations, consultations, and trainings. Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program Licensed or license-eligible in Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist, with the ability to secure licensure within 12 months of hire Must have completed (or be eligible to complete) the requisite forensic trainings through DBHDS/UVA ILPPP to be certified as a forensic evaluator in Virginia Demonstrated experience providing forensic evaluations Additional Considerations
