Location: HOUSTON, TX
Overview
The Materials Management Specialist (Vehicle Driver) reports to the Regional Business Services Manager (BSM) in each region within Regional Administrative Services (RAS). The role involves assembly, repair, delivery/pick-up, and installation of equipment, furniture, and other business supplies. Responsibilities include mail and package handling, warehouse duties, inventory management, and support for office moves and building maintenance. The position may support disaster deployment activities and requires use of CAFM and CAPPS Financial systems.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities (EJFs)
Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pickup large items (furniture, IT equipment, boxes, supplies, and emergency gear). Provide mail pickup/delivery on routine routes. Load/unload cargo and identify efficient routes; perform minor vehicle repairs when needed. Maintain vehicle maintenance logs and submit monthly reports. Update vehicle logs and assist with fleet management reporting.
Perform shipping and receiving duties in the warehouse and regional mailroom. Inspect packages, document receipt in CAPPS Financial system, and route deliveries to the correct recipients. Process outgoing mail and shipping, determine shipping methods, and maintain postage/package records.
Execute standard warehouse duties: store and inventory materials, operate motorized/manual equipment, monitor stock levels, and reorder as needed.
Assemble/install furniture and equipment, adapt modular installations to customer needs, and assist with office moves. Oversee contractors for moves and modular furniture installations. Support the regional Quick Copy center with printing, copying, and document delivery.
Support Regional Disaster Deployment Team activities: deliver, assemble, and monitor emergency equipment; may work extended hours in varied environments.
Attend regular scheduled work and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance; safe cargo loading/unloading.
State and Federal traffic rules for cargo and mail delivery.
Warehousing procedures and safe use of motorized equipment.
Skills
Operating motor vehicles including panel trucks/cargo vans.
Managing multiple priorities; proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Abilities
Obey traffic laws and maintain accurate maintenance records.
Document receipt of items and utilize CAPPS/CAFM systems.
Operate warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jack, dolly) and lift up to 50 pounds.
Perform basic building maintenance; follow directions; communicate effectively; develop professional relationships.
Travel locally and statewide (overnight stays possible).
Registrations, Licensure or Certifications
Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing as demonstrated in the application.
Preferred experience in shipping/receiving, sorting and distributing furniture, supplies, or equipment.
Preferred experience operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dollys, etc.
Preferred experience pulling trailers; preferred experience driving panel trucks/cargo vans.
Additional Information
May assist with emergency/disaster situations throughout the state, which may include overnight stays.
