Position Summary McCormick Taylor has an immediate opening for a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer (Transportation Engineer III) to join our Transportation Department in Verona, VA. Projects the candidate may work on include roadway improvements, intersection design, ADA and pedestrian accommodations, bicycle facility design, trails/greenways, and site improvements, as well as field visits and site investigations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment and help us shape the communities where we live, work and play. We are seeking an individual who can help us continue our growth in the industry, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work well in an in-person or hybrid remote office environment. Strong written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to organize are required.
Responsibilities
Manage and/or Support design efforts and projects and work under direction of Senior Manager and/or other project managers/managers
Ability to develop design solutions on a variety of roadway and transportation design projects, geometric design, including conceptual, preliminary, right of way, and final construction documents
Perform horizontal and vertical alignment designs
Ability to work independently on engineering assignments
Able to direct and/or mentor entry-level staff and technicians while generating work for staff
Manage or Assist with tasks, project design and plans development
Manage or Assist with project scheduling and cost estimating
Prepare technical reports, studies, and detailed/complex calculations for transportation projects
Perform quality reviews of documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance
Experience in final design projects for public transportation improvement projects
Ability to work effectively with VDOT and other public sector clients, including Federal, State, and local agencies
Possess or have ability to develop project management and budgeting skills
Qualifications
8 to 15 years of experience in the design of highway/roadway, civil engineering and transportation projects
BS in Civil Engineering or related field, MS degree is a plus
PE license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation, AutoCAD, InRoads, and OpenRoads (Bentley software preferred)
Experience managing or leading tasks for transportation projects
Well versed and knowledgeable about roadway design elements, standards and constructability methods
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite
