Position: Foreman Foremen make decisions and instruct the crew pertaining to production on a daily basis. Foremen work side by side with laborers, must have the capability to manually complete any activity. A Foreman reports directly to a General, Area or Site Superintendent. Among a Foreman’s responsibilities are pre‑planning work for a crew, providing training opportunities for crew, overseeing safety procedures, quality of workmanship, and the morale and attitude of a crew.
Key Responsibilities
Maintaining a safe, clean and organized workplace – site, yard, trailers & trucks
Securing and maintaining equipment – activating kill switches, greasing equipment and maintaining fluid levels
Managing the crew’s daily production and quality standards to meet daily production targets
Ordering and receiving materials, including verifying and reporting quantities and quality of material received
Identifying and communicating manpower and equipment needs to Superintendent
Recording actual quantities installed, crew size and hours worked and updating production activities on a 2‑week schedule as changes to original plans occur
Arranging for job inspections, utility locates and utility refreshers
Informing Superintendent of changes to original Work Order
Completing paperwork, including Timecards, diaries, production tracking worksheet, bi‑weekly inventory of equipment and safety documents, accurately and timely
Other Duties
Completing Final Inspection Reports and end of maintenance/warranty
Attending meetings with customer/architect
Attending branch meetings, such as Foreman’s meeting, pre‑job and pre‑production meetings and quarterly safety meetings
Staying current on all safety training and submitting forms related to Safety
Following accident procedures if and when accidents occur
Must Dos for Fulfilling Responsibilities
Hold Monday morning safety tailgate meeting
Return customer calls within 30 minutes
Utilize Foreman checklist, including holding start‑of‑day huddle and mid‑day check‑in, every day
Update Superintendent at least once per day
Review and update 2‑week schedule daily
