ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER
role at
NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) . This position is open to internal city employees only.
DEP enriches the environment and protects public health by providing high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing pollution. BEDC oversees a portfolio of capital projects and supports the Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) in Queens, NY. WWCP focuses on delivering projects with emphasis on health and safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client service.
Responsibilities
Assist the project team in achieving project goals and milestones; ensure that all prepared program schedules, reports, and work products conform to the program scope of work.
Support the preparation, negotiation, and processing of modifications to consultant contracts regarding scope, cost, and schedule for successful project completion.
Serve as design and construction support staff, ensuring Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is incorporated throughout the project lifecycle.
Focus on client service with operating bureaus and coordinate with BEDC support groups (e.g., Project Controls, Permit Resource).
Develop seamless communication with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and stakeholders; monitor permit requirements; assist in resolving project issues; mitigate risk; and monitor quality of project delivery via KPIs related to budget, schedule, and contract metrics.
Conduct field condition surveys and prepare accurate reports on physical observations; participate in field investigations to develop alternative approaches to meet project objectives.
Attend required environmental compliance and safety trainings.
Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory civil engineering experience; or
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.
