Are you interested in working for a company with a challenging work environment and a rewarding career path? We are seeking an Electrical Controls Supervisor for the Newberry, SC Mill. The Electrical Controls Supervisor will be a key contributor and provide support to the overall operational and maintenance objectives to reach top quartile mill status. The role involves troubleshooting all electrical, instrumental, and process malfunctions, including mechanical power transmission equipment and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The successful candidate will diagnose, repair, and overhaul automatic control valves, sensors, positioners, actuators, electrical AC/DC systems, and related systems.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and technical abilities and the energy to support and grow as West Fraser expands its US lumber business.
Responsibilities
Work with the facility electrical team to maintain and improve PLC and other automation control systems, ensuring work is completed safely and reliably.
Train and impart knowledge to mill personnel to bring skill levels up to match existing systems.
Engage with mill-level personnel to understand mill needs and deliver needed support effectively.
Manage and develop electrical technicians.
Excellent troubleshooting skills in drives, PLCs, control systems, and electrical issues; ability to troubleshoot remotely and guide mill staff through issues.
Maintain and care for various optimization systems (software and hardware).
Respond to emergencies at the mill with a flexible, "whatever it takes" mindset.
Identify opportunities for improvement and help local mill management implement them.
Assist in project planning, startups, and helping the mill meet/exceed ramp expectations; collaborate with vendors to move the mill beyond their expertise.
Qualifications
Required:
Technical Degree
Previous industrial experience
Familiar with Allen Bradley products, VFD drives, soft starters, and HMIs
Experience with PLC-5 and ControlLogix PLC platforms
Experience with Ethernet, DeviceNet, and ControlNet communication protocols
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office
Experience working with high and low voltages
Demonstrated supervisor abilities
Ability to manage small projects and day-to-day work planning
Experience following electrical schematics
Strong troubleshooting track record
Proven safe work record
Preferred
5+ years of controls and automation experience
Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Willingness to relocate for growth opportunities
Service-oriented mindset to support production needs
Continuous process improvement mindset
Team player with vendor collaboration experience to maximize uptime
Willing to work flexible hours based on business needs
