Overview
GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for an Assistant Engineering Manager within our Power Business Unit's Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector. The successful candidate will work in a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented environment that utilizes related experience to develop professionally and grow in today\'s global environment. This position is eligible for GAI\'s flexible Hybrid workplace policy. GAI\'s Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients. Responsibilities
Manage civil engineering and permitting tasks, delegate and provide direction to engineering/drafting staff, and lead the development of calculations, drawings, and associated project deliverables. Develop proposals, monitor budgets, and coordinate with internal and external clients as well as the Engineering Division Manager, Business Sector Leader, and other engineering discipline leads (e.g., mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and geotechnical). Plan, design, and facilitate civil engineering project design tasks such as site grading and drainage, access road design, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, report preparation, and permitting. Oversee task management including technical work, staff planning, budget/schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination. Prepare proposals with scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination; prepare site reports, narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums as needed. Collaborate with other engineering leads to schedule resources and QA/QC peer reviews. Independently conduct field condition assessments and provide bid/construct phase services including responding to bidder questions and RFI requests, submittal reviews, site visits, and change order documentation. Travel to other offices, meet with clients, and attend project-specific meetings. Staff Management Duties
Plan, mentor, and coach junior engineering, drafting, and field staff; participate in hiring and recruiting. Lead and train staff to perform field visits at client sites to obtain photos and measurements, assess site conditions, inspect E&S and Stormwater BMPs, and perform infiltration testing. Physical Requirements
Hiking moderate distances through unimproved terrain and in remote areas, in various temperatures and weather conditions; potential hazardous conditions during fieldwork. Lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights over 25 ft. Personal Protective Equipment is required during hazardous conditions. General Characteristics
Applies thorough knowledge of current engineering principles and practices related to a variety of aspects affecting the practice. Maintains awareness of new methods and developments; recommends changes to projects as needed. Leads projects of moderate complexity or major projects; analyzes complex problems across multiple specialty areas. Assesses ethical considerations to determine appropriate actions. Experience and Education
Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in civil/environmental engineering. B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. Licenses and Certifications
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; reciprocity in multiple states; Driver\'s License required. Technical Responsibilities
Occasionally serves as the technical advisor for the practice in applying advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area. Keeps informed of new developments affecting practice and recommends changes to projects or applications. Occasionally develops new techniques, processes, materials, or products; evaluates sustainable performance of complex projects from a systems perspective. Project and Task Management
Plans, schedules, and coordinates preparation of documents for multiple major projects or an entire project within a practice. Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects and applies risk management where relevant. Ensures compliance with policies and performance measures. Management and Communication
Supervises engineers and technicians; receives administrative supervision with broad objectives. Mentors senior staff and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability. Applies formal strategic and persuasive communication; represents the area within the practice and liaises with related individuals and practices.
