Prevention Coordinator

will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of a primary prevention grant funded by the MA Department of Public Health-Bureau of Substance Addiction Services. Responsible for supporting prevention programming, coalition and capacity building, social media and marketing, and program development related to SSTAR’s prevention initiatives. This position requires knowledge/experience in substance misuse prevention and comfort working with school departments, community stakeholders, programs, and services in the Greater Taunton area.

Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Implement activities outlined in the grant proposal and RFR using the Strategic Prevention Framework and community assessment tools.

Support and/or lead cluster communities by attending Coalition, Task Force, and related meetings.

Collaborate with SSTAR Prevention team on community/prevention initiatives, policies, and procedures.

Represent SSTAR and substance use prevention efforts in the catchment area.

Gather data to inform work and complete necessary reports.

Manage and assist with social marketing related to substance use prevention and positive youth development.

Attend trainings, conferences, community, and BSAS meetings.

Pursue ongoing professional development.

Work with communities, schools, stakeholders, and organizations to incorporate racial/health equity, trauma-informed approaches, and evidence-based prevention principles.

Support other Coordinators/Directors within the agency.

Maintain flexibility for evening and weekend duties.

Follow work schedule, obtain supervisor approval for schedule conflicts, late arrivals, or early departures.

Facilitate focus groups and presentations on substance use and prevention topics.

Research, compile, and present data on substance use issues.

Record all hours worked accurately.

Report unsafe or unusual safety issues per policy.

Travel locally, statewide, and nationally as needed for meetings, activities, and training.

Experience and Skills Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, or related field, OR

3-5 years’ experience in Prevention, Education, and/or Public Health with a high school diploma.

Knowledge of social media and marketing is desirable.

Driver’s license required.
