Federal Work Study Student | Social Media Assistant – Office of Student Life
Hours:
5-10 hours/week During the academic term, students may only work up to
19 hours
per week. Occasional evening or event attendance may be required .

Summary As a Social Media Assistant with UTMB’s Office of Student Life, you’ll help bring our campus community to life online. Working closely with the Student Life team, you’ll create and share engaging content across our social media platforms to connect with current and prospective students and showcase the spirit of UTMB.
We’re looking for someone who’s creative, outgoing, and comfortable being on camera, someone who enjoys making videos, talking to people, and showing off their UTMB pride. If you’re curious, collaborative, and excited to help tell UTMB’s story, we’d love to have you on the team!
Reporting Structure This position reports directly to the Director of Student Life. You’ll support content creation and curation, engage with students and the broader UTMB community, and help analyze performance data to guide social media strategy and boost online engagement.
Essential Functions
Create engaging photo and video content to promote UTMB Student Life and events
Share information creatively to build awareness and community
Support social media campaigns and initiatives
Track engagement and performance metrics using META and Canva
Attend and capture content at occasional campus events (in-person or virtual)
Required Education and Experience
Must have a Federal Work Study Award and be enrolled in a UTMB degree program
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Strong initiative, attention to detail, and time management
Friendly, charismatic, and passionate about UTMB and the Galveston community
Comfortable on camera; public speaking experience is a plus
Experience with content creation (vlogs, reels, filmmaking, etc.)
Proficiency in Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn
Familiarity with social media trends and ability to translate them into content
Basic knowledge of design and aesthetics
Preferred Qualifications
Well-connected across campus with awareness of student events and trends
Experience working independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
