Take a peek at what our beautiful County has to offer - Indian River County, Florida - Chamber of Commerce Equipment Mechanic II - Fleet Management Performs highly skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel-powered construction and related public works equipment. This is a skilled journeyman level position, working independently under the general direction of the supervisor. Repairs and rebuilds a variety of County construction and maintenance equipment Repairs and rebuilds hydraulic cylinders, valve bodies, and hydraulic hoses Repairs diesel and gasoline engines Repairs light duty trucks, medium duty trucks, and trucks with air brake systems Repairs heavy duty equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, excavators, etc. Repairs tractors and mowers May do welding as required Dismount and mount tires on light duty and medium duty vehicles Perform preventative maintenance on various County equipment as needed Repairs small engines as required Repair a/c systems on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment Education and Experience: High school diploma / GED and a minimum of two years related working experience, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License. A valid Florida Class A or B commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker and/or hazmat and tanker endorsements is preferred. Holders of a Class A or B CDL are eligible for incentive pay based on the CDL license classification and endorsements. ASE certification in electronic fuel systems and air conditioning is preferred. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of construction, design, repair and adjustment of motors and of the common types of construction equipment where such motors are used for power, such as graders, rollers and bulldozers. Knowledge of tools, including scanning devices, and equipment needed for major and minor repairs of motors and construction equipment. Knowledge of hydraulic systems. Knowledge of both light and heavy-duty electrical systems in regard to their role in the proper functioning of engineering equipment. Knowledge of the principles of operation of diesel fueled and gasoline internal combustion engines. Knowledge of the principles of operation of A/C systems in light/medium duty and heavy equipment. Ability to diagnose defects and failures of motors and equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
