The Outreach and Engagement Specialist builds relationships with Native American individuals experiencing homelessness and connects them to supportive services. This frontline role works independently and with NAC departments (Permanent Supportive Housing, Supportive Housing, Bridge Housing, Emergency Shelter, Youth Services, Behavioral Health). Ideal candidate is highly motivated, resourceful, trauma-informed, and knowledgeable about urban Native American communities and the unhoused population. RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct community-based and street outreach to locate, engage, and build rapport with the target population; meet applicants in office settings and in the community across the MetroPhoenix area. Provide clear, accurate information about NAC services. Complete Housing Questionnaire assessments and collaborate with housing staff to enter Coordinated Entry System for services. Guide clients through service navigation to access housing, behavioral health, and supportive programs. Coordinate care internally within NAC and externally with partner providers; re-engage clients as needed and link to appropriate services. Advocate for clients to ensure effective service delivery. Maintain accurate and confidential client files using an organized system. Enter and update client data in HMIS. Assist potential applicants with obtaining required documents for services. Comply with NAC policies regarding use of agency vehicles. EDUCATIONAL/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field preferred. Two (2) years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness. Two (2) years of experience in direct service delivery or a related combination of education, training, and experience. SKILLS REQUIREMENT
Knowledge of the economic, social, and systemic issues impacting Native American communities. Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills. Experience working with Native American populations. Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team and work independently. Valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record; personal vehicle may be used for outreach. Proficiency with MS Office and data systems (e.g., HMIS). PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit, stand, walk with or without accommodations. NATIVE AMERICAN PREFERENCE:
Preference may be given to qualified Native American Indians per the Indian Preference Hiring Act, CFR 25 USC 472. Other than Indian Preference, NAC adheres to the Equal Employment Opportunity Act. DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE:
