Overview
Community Engagement Coordinator – City of Rowlett, Texas The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the City’s efforts to promote its services, engage with the community, and enhance quality of life programs for the City of Rowlett. Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, this role plans and executes city special events and volunteer programs, including budgeting, concept development, and sponsorship solicitation. The role promotes events, supervises contract labor and volunteers, and evaluates event responsiveness and efficiency. The role supports neighborhood educational programming and fosters partnerships with local businesses. The ideal candidate is a creative and organized professional, passionate about community engagement and public service, capable of managing multiple projects, and skilled at working with diverse audiences. Performs related duties as required. Responsibilities
Plan and implement all city special events and volunteer programs, prepare budgets, develop concepts, prepare annual special event agendas, and solicit sponsorships. Promote and market events and volunteer programs through print, broadcast, and social media. Supervise contract labor, vendors, and volunteers by delegating assignments, hiring, training, and evaluating. Monitor and evaluate the responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of special events; maintain inventory and purchase supplies and equipment as needed. Prepare and maintain attendance records, event summaries, and evaluations; coordinate facilities, programs, and marketing with local school districts. Work with City departments to create community outreach programs and educational initiatives, including planning and implementing the City Academy; participate in the Neighborhood Summit and related clinics with partner cities. Engage local businesses and organizations for program and event support; assist with marketing and branding efforts, including website updates, social media content, and graphic design using appropriate software. Respond to inquiries, provide information to the public regarding events and programs, and address complaints with recommended corrective action as needed. Perform other duties as assigned; maintain regular, reliable attendance and professional working relationships. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field, plus two years of related experience in coordinating special events, community programs, volunteerism, outreach, and marketing; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Communication Skills: Effective oral and written communication; collaborative and flexible style. Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe, and basic mobile/portable radio operation. Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize, multi-task, schedule, and meet deadlines. Judgment: Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in non-routine situations. Leadership & Facilitation: Able to lead and facilitate meetings and manage groups of various sizes. Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions. Safety Knowledge: Familiar with safe working procedures and applicable laws, codes, and safety regulations. Event Management: Skilled in planning, coordinating, and executing community events. Public Relations: Ability to manage events within budget and foster relationships with community stakeholders. Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must report traffic citations as required. Must be able to work a varying schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lb; work may occur in varied environments and weather conditions. Evening and weekends may be required to accommodate service demands.
