Location: Independence, VA | Salary: $45,000 - $65,000 | Type: Full-time, Exempt, Restricted
Overview Virginia Tech Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics seeks an Associate Extension Agent to conduct research-based outreach, collaborate with producers, and support community and economic development in Grayson County.
Responsibilities
Provide research-based information to agricultural producers, marketers, processors, and consumers.
Build partnerships with producers, extension leadership, and community partners to identify priorities.
Lead farm and business visits; maintain knowledge of local needs.
Facilitate education programs, plan and implement outreach, evaluate program effectiveness.
Travel to provide in-person leadership and build community partnerships.
Work independently within an unstructured setting, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications
BA/BS in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
Master’s degree and promotion to Extension Agent within six years of employment.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, select, train, and manage volunteers.
Strong communication, presentation, and computer skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision in an unstructured setting.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Criminal conviction check required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
