Duties Summary Performs duties in support of professional social service functions. Requires knowledge of various techniques and procedures and the ability to work as a support person to a professional worker. Performs tasks such as determining continued eligibility, making referrals to standard community resources and/or professional staff, and performing all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school or experience which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions, a high degree of verbal skill, and the ability to make basic mathematical computations, including averaging.
Specialized Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing. Experience includes performing clerical tasks, transporting clients and materials, explaining available services, and assisting in overseeing group activities.
Comparable Experience:
Applicants for Social Service Assistant V must possess at least one (1) year of experience comparable to the Social Service Aid III level. Social Service Aid III provides independent support services for a unit or team and participates in limited field work.
