Plant Continuous Improvement Manager
Manages the development and implementation of continuous improvement strategies in a manufacturing plant. Evaluates existing processes and identifies opportunities for quality or efficiency improvement, as well as cost-savings measures. Essential Functions
Builds working relationships with the plant leadership team, Plant Director, corporate Lean Six Sigma team, and Continuous Improvement resources company-wide. Plays a central role in best-practice sharing across the entire manufacturing enterprise. Works collaboratively with site leadership to identify initiatives and establish priorities based on corporate business objectives and corporate Lean Six Sigma team input. Leads lean six sigma teams on projects that deliver process improvements and financially contribute to the business, leveraging the results throughout the organization. Builds Niagara’s Continuous Improvement & Lean / Six Sigma competencies, including Six Sigma methodology, 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Kaizen, Green/Black Belt Certification, data-oriented decision-making, statistics, SPC, and related proficiencies. The Plant CI Manager leads as a manager of process, adding these competencies to their toolbox, and fostering plant-learning and use of the same. The role involves ongoing training and certification every year. Acts as a member of the plant management team. Supports and fills in duties for senior department managers such as Production, Maintenance, and Warehouse Managers. Seeks out opportunities to improve team members’ knowledge base, coordinating training, education programs, and mentoring relationships. Acts as a local change agent, continuously challenging the status quo, and finding new ways to achieve Niagara’s business strategies. Utilizes data-driven, structured problem-solving tools, including Six Sigma, to improve process capability, reduce variation, and optimize performance. Implements visual controls, standard work, improvement opportunity walks, and process audits to ensure lasting results. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or related field. 6 years of experience in a similar position. 4 years managing people or projects. *Experience may include a combination of work experience and education. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to influence without formal authority. Ability to interact effectively with internal and external contacts. Talented influencer and team builder, capable of forming teams without official authority and motivating them to achieve self-directed goals. Required travel: 15% domestic overnight travel, potentially up to 30% for some projects. Preferred Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. 10+ years in a similar position. 6+ years managing people/projects. *Experience may include a combination of work experience and education. Progressive manufacturing experience, including leadership roles in Production, Technical, or Warehouse operations. Prior experience in filling, food packaging, beverage filling, or high-speed consumer products manufacturing is preferred. Experience with implementing and overseeing improvement initiatives. Knowledge of Continuous Improvement, TPM/TQM, Lean, Six Sigma, or Toyota Production System methodologies and tools. Demonstrated project management skills on cross-functional initiatives. Ability to use data for creative problem solving. Proven success working with people in change programs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, E-Business Systems (Oracle, SAP), inventory systems, and analysis applications like SPSS, NCSS, MiniTab, or similar systems. Core Competencies
