Job Description The Logistics Specialist role manages the flow of goods from suppliers to the WPI factory and onward to end customers. Responsibilities include coordinating transportation, tracking shipments, understanding inventory positions, analyzing logistics data, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery while adhering to regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, manage and evaluate logistics operations, liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies, and customers.
Develop forecasting plans to ensure sufficient carrier capacity.
Establish priorities, track shipments in real time, and ensure availability of capable providers.
Keep records of all shipments (Packing Lists, BOLs, receipt confirmations).
Maintain shipping schedules and hit deadlines for rush shipments.
Monitor and report on supply‑chain performance metrics such as on‑time delivery, actual spend vs. target, and cost savings.
Create and implement best‑practice logistics principles, policies and processes across the organization.
Drive creation of packaging requirements and lead sourcing of these materials.
Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers.
Select carriers/suppliers and monitor service against performance criteria.
Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.
Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, and customer issues.
Review impact of logistics changes and report results to others.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify cost‑optimization opportunities.
Interpret trends, analyze data, and provide meaningful logistics data to aid customer service and cost improvements.
Ensure IT systems are effective, maintained and accurate.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and stay updated on industry standards.
Location / Hours On site in Salt Lake City, UT. Day shift, 40 hours per week.
Basic Requirements
At least 3 years of proven work experience as a Logistics Manager.
Attention to detail and ability to support multiple complex deployment projects simultaneously.
Good understanding of supply‑chain processes and their interdependencies.
Strong IT system knowledge, including advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge and experience of using ERP/MRP systems.
Proficient in standard logistics software.
Ability to work autonomously and exercise discretion and independent judgement.
Project management skills.
Commercial and financial acumen with full understanding of the impact of failure on business cost, production schedules, and customer order fulfillment.
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply‑Chain Management, or Operations Management.
Expert knowledge of technical regulations related to logistics such as import/export and customs regulations, including security requirements and dangerous goods handling.
APICS CLTD certification.
Knowledge of lean techniques would be advantageous.
