in Austin, Texas. This opportunity focuses on leading RS&H’s highway design team in Austin to deliver large-scale transportation design projects while expanding RS&H’s presence in Texas. Your Role & Responsibilities
Autonomy & Leadership: Lead the local highway design team as a senior project manager on large, complex transportation projects. Oversee and mentor multi-disciplined teams to ensure high-quality project outcomes. Team Management & Mentorship: Manage a team of highway engineers, delivering high-performing service and quality deliverables while supporting their growth. Client & Team Communication: Maintain strong client relationships as the primary point of contact, manage client communications and satisfaction, and coordinate with discipline task leaders, staff, and subconsultants to ensure seamless execution. Perform regular quality control on deliverables and manage schedules and budgets. Business Development: Identify project opportunities, lead proposal development, select partnering firms, engage in industry events, promote team achievements, and network with prospective clients and professionals. National Collaboration: Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams on projects that impact Austin and surrounding areas, and leverage RS&H’s nationwide footprint for broader experience and knowledge sharing. What You Need To Succeed
Professional Engineering License: Texas-licensed or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months; bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a similar ABET-accredited program. Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership, mentoring large multi-disciplined teams on complex projects with construction value ≥ $20M. Project & Team Management: PM experience on conventional and design-build projects for intersections, arterials, interstates, and interchanges for TxDOT and Texas municipal clients. Local Expertise: Project experience in Texas with knowledge of policies and procedures for highway design, alternate delivery, and/or general engineering contracts for TxDOT. Client Partnership: Ability to understand client goals, offer thoughtful options, advise on challenging decisions, and proactively communicate to address challenges. Organizational Skills & Quality Focus: Commitment to delivering industry-leading products with strong quality control, organization, and prioritization for effective team and project management. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of MicroStation, Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD), PS&E package development, and/or Corridor Modeling for review and guidance. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to market RS&H and collaborate with clients, staff, and partners. Goals and Objectives
Lead the highway team, including client management, project development, financial performance, backlog management, and associate mentorship. Grow and lead high-performance teams, foster a culture of excellence, and oversee technical training and learning. Lead local business development to grow backlog and manage client relationships for loyalty and retention. Oversee project performance and execution, monitor labor budgets and schedules, and support marketing and business development initiatives. Collaborate with leadership to develop goals, growth plans, and strategic initiatives. Required Qualifications
ABET-accredited Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering; Texas PE licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or MBA preferred but not required. Minimum 12 years of civil design experience, with at least 8 years in highway/roadway facilities. Experience on interstate, interchange, and roadway construction for state and county clients. Ability to travel regionally; valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills; proficiency with MicroStation, ORD, PS&E, and Microsoft Office.
