Freight Operations Specialist / CDL Driver
Join Roadrunner as a Freight Operations Specialist / CDL Driver. This role involves local pickup and delivery of LTL freight, dock operations, yard jockey duties, and general terminal support.
Responsibilities
Safely operate commercial motor vehicles (Class A or B) on designated local routes.
Perform timely pickup and delivery of LTL freight.
Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections per DOT regulations.
Interact professionally with customers, representing EFS and Roadrunner.
Accurately complete shipping documents (Bills of Lading, delivery receipts, manifests).
Utilize handheld scanners and company technology for tracking and documentation.
Secure freight with load bars, straps, and other equipment to prevent damage.
Adhere strictly to DOT regulations, traffic laws, and safety protocols.
Dock Operations: load and unload freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks; sort, stage, and verify freight counts; operate dock equipment safely; maintain a clean and safe workspace; assist with weighing and dimensioning freight as needed.
Hostling (Yard Jockey): operate yard truck to reposition trailers; spot trailers for loading/unloading; perform inspections; coordinate with dispatch and dock personnel; conduct yard checks and update records; ensure proper chocking, placement, and brake application; maintain awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic; assist with trailer flow during peak times.
General Duties: assist with terminal upkeep; participate in safety meetings; communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and team members; perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Valid CDL (Class A or B).
Clean driving record meeting DOT standards.
Pass DOT physical and pre‑employment drug screen.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate forklifts/pallet jacks.
Work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) both indoors and outdoors.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and team‑first attitude.
Flexibility to work varying shifts.
Ability to read, write, and understand English, including shipping documents and safety regulations.
Commitment to safety and adherence to procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Forklift certification.
Prior experience in LTL, freight handling, or dock operations.
Physical Demands
Lift, push, pull, and carry freight up to 75 lbs, occasionally heavier with assistance.
Sit for extended periods while driving; stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, and climb during dock work and deliveries.
Climb in and out of tractors and trailers repeatedly.
Work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) both indoors and outdoors.
Good hearing and vision, meeting DOT requirements.
Work Environment
Fast‑paced LTL terminal environment.
Exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, diesel fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.
Involves operating heavy machinery (trucks, forklifts).
Compensation
Hourly: $27.00 per hour.
