Do you enjoy analyzing complex situations and providing professional engineering leadership to co-workers? The Iowa Department of Transportation is looking to hire a Transportation Engineer Senior for the District 3 Office in Sioux City, Iowa! You will serve as the Team Lead for the District 3 Design Team and help oversee and coordinate the daily work assignments of 5 reporting positions.

Shift Requirements Days, Monday through Friday (Flexible, hybrid schedules available)

Responsibilities Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Serves as the team lead for developing projects and managing assets for primary highways in District 3. This involves working closely with district staff, maintenance, central office staff, cities, and counties.

Leads a team of engineers and technicians in the development and design of projects that are designed by the district. This includes developing the project scopes, preliminary and final plans. Typical project types include pavement resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation (3R) and pavement maintenance. Occasionally, other project types like reconstruction, safety, emergency repairs, erosion, fencing, and other miscellaneous projects will need to be developed.

Serves as district lead on projects being developed by central offices (Bridge or Design), cities, Counties, or consultants. Includes concept and plan reviews, field reviews, detour agreements, preconstruction agreements, coordination with local public agencies, public involvement, and review of traffic control and staging.

Serves as the district lead in developing the pavement management program utilizing asset management principles. This program has an annual budget of $30-45 million for rehabilitation and maintenance.

The district is responsible for 3700 lane miles of highway and 270 lane miles of interstate highway.

Reviews and addresses operational, maintenance, drainage, and safety concerns.

Qualifications

Maintain License as a Professional Engineer in the state of Iowa

Maintain a valid driver's license

Minimum Qualification Requirements

All of the following (a and b): a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and b. Four years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.

All of the following (a, b, and c): a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and b. Three years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering; c. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.

Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer Specialist or Transportation Engineer Manager.
