Position Summary This position oversees daily operations in the yard to ensure efficiency, safety, and excellent customer service. Key responsibilities include managing and coordinating yard staff, overseeing the loading and unloading of materials, maintaining accurate inventory, and ensuring proper storage and organization of products. The Yard Supervisor enforces safety standards, monitors equipment usage, and resolves customer or operational issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

Schedule yard staff to cover days and hours of operation while meeting payroll to sales targets and monitoring service demands against resource availability.

Mentor, train, and problem‑solve for yard staff.

Maintain high quality Branch staff through selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, appraising, and disciplining.

Provide ongoing direction to employees in the absence or at the direction of the Branch Manager.

Ensure an in‑stock image by monitoring inventory levels, assessing demand, and replenishing stock.

Coordinate delivery times and total hours for load building, checking, and staging while monitoring timeliness, accuracy, and order quality.

Maintain equipment, storage buildings, and grounds, establishing preventive maintenance programs for trucks, forklifts, and saws.

Ensure a safe working environment through the implementation of safety policies and procedures, acting as a positive role model.

Assist management and staff in achieving overall branch objectives, working with the Branch management team in planning, budgeting, problem solving, and coordinating assigned portions of projects.

Requirements

Proven experience in the lumber & building supplies industry is a plus.

Strong people management and team‑building skills.

Effective communication with customers and co‑workers.

Ability to motivate team members to increase productivity.

Experience routing area/market to reduce delivery expense & increase efficiency is a plus.

Experience using DQ Technologies Order Delivery Tracking (ODT) is a plus.

Knowledge of current employee labor law (meals & breaks).

Well organized, able to multi‑task and prioritize.

Must pass drug test and consent to a background check.
