Position Summary: Responsible for providing ad hoc support to the shipping department. Principle Accountabilities: Make arrangements for pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order. Transfer stock to and from trucks. Store units of stock in the warehouse in an orderly fashion in order to expedite retrieval. Support the shipment of goods produced and the received goods and supplies to be used in order to aid in the production/storage of goods destined for sale to our customer base. Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly manner and follow prescribed safety regulations. Make pick-ups and deliveries to our suppliers for parts and raw materials for incoming product. Understand and follow instructions from shipping manager and supervisors. Understand and practice correct equipment operation. Unload and loads stock on trucks when necessary. Documents materials loaded on and taken off trucks. Responsible for shipping orders, forms, inventory tags and counts on materials received or shipped. Assist the Forklift Operators to balance the workload, organize warehouses, and perform general cleaning. Report any missing, broken, bent, or worn parts to supervisor or maintenance. Decision Making: Under direct supervision, the employee is expected to perform routine assignments and tasks within existing procedures and standards. Employee is responsible for making determinations regarding appropriate procedures to apply in resolving issues or completing tasks. This position defers complicated issues to the attention of more senior positions. Interactions: The Shipping Clerk will interact with individuals throughout the company and from all types of positions. The individual must be able to develop rapport with co-workers in an effort to establish solid working relationships. Additionally, the Shipping Clerk may interact with the external vendors and customers and must be able to positively represent the manager, department, and the company in these situations. Position Requirements: Education equivalent to a high school diploma required. Some college or administrative training preferred. Previous work experience in a business environment preferred. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required. Strong attention to meeting and exceeding expectations. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests. Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently. Strong attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on shipping procedures, policies, and requests for information. Previous work experience in a team environment preferred, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.
