Position Overview We are seeking skilled
Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic
to join our Shop Operations Team. This individual will be responsible for the
inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance
of a wide range of construction equipment and heavy diesel machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, dump trucks, and more.
This role is
primarily shop-based
with occasional field work as needed. The ideal candidate is
proactive, safety-focused, and mechanically inclined , with experience in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems.
Key Responsibilities
Perform diagnostics and repairs
on heavy construction equipment and diesel-powered vehicles.
Conduct regular
preventative maintenance (PM)
services to ensure equipment reliability and extend service life.
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues using diagnostic tools and manuals.
Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, drive systems, undercarriages, brakes, cooling systems, and other components.
Document all work performed , including service reports, time records, and parts used.
Maintain a
clean, organized, and safe shop environment
and comply with company and OSHA safety standards.
Assist with equipment inspections
and report findings to the Shop Foreman or Fleet Manager.
Keep detailed service records and maintain an inventory of tools and equipment.
Occasionally respond to field service calls for equipment breakdowns.
Communicate effectively with other mechanics, operators, and management regarding equipment status and repairs needed.
Perform other tasks as assigned needs.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in a construction or fleet maintenance environment.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment repair.
Proficient in using diagnostic tools, scan tools, and shop manuals.
Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
Certifications:
Technical school training or ASE certification preferred but not required.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL a plus.
Work Ethic & Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 20+ pounds and work in physically demanding environments.
Able to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
Willingness to work overtime or emergency repairs when needed.
High attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
Shop or Field setting with occasional outdoor or field work.
Exposure to grease, oil, dirt, noise, and heavy machinery.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
