Organization Overview Lilly is constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for the production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules in Lebanon, IN. This investment is Lilly’s largest manufacturing capacity expansion and will provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. It offers a unique opportunity to join a startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site and help build processes and a facility capable of successful GMP startup.

Position Brand Description The Lead Operator for Tank Farm, Truck and Rail Operations will ensure the uninterrupted supply of solvents and effective waste management to support facility needs. Responsibilities include tank farm operations, air emissions systems, and truck/rail car loading/unloading, all executed safely and compliantly per SOPs to support high‑quality medicine manufacturing.

During project delivery and startup (anticipated 2026‑2028), roles will be fluid. The position will support project delivery, build organizational systems, implement GMP business processes, and help shape site culture with collaboration, creativity, and resilience.

Responsibilities

Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Support execution of the production plan for the site.

Operate tank farm, tanker loading/unloading, and railcar loading/unloading.

Conduct daily monitoring, testing, and cleaning to ensure equipment and systems are in good operating condition and meet regulatory standards.

Enter Trackwise/Veeva events and lead CAPA investigations.

Troubleshoot and diagnose process problems, taking appropriate actions to minimize deviations.

Apply Health, Safety & Environmental standards and process safety principles in key GMP duties.

Understand and react to operational hazards in other area processes.

Monitor and collect equipment data to anticipate reliability issues.

Collaborate with Maintenance and Technical Support for potential utility or equipment failures.

Respond appropriately to spills, deviations, or incidents during processing.

Communicate shift status and issues to other shifts.

Participate in daily shift huddles to align on operational goals.

Engage in safety audits, procedure coordination, housekeeping, and improvement projects.

Be trained and qualified on all specified unit operations within the area and support training of operators.

Engage in informal or formal discussions about concerns (crew meetings, safety representatives).

Follow cGMP practices, safe work habits, plant dress code, hygiene standards, and housekeeping requirements.

Basic Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.

Completion of Post‑Offer Exam or Work Simulation, if applicable.

Minimum 3 years previous experience in utility/tank farm/truck and rail loading and unloading operations or chemical manufacturing.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Basic computer skills with desktop software.

Physically capable of bending, reaching, stretching, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces.

Ability to stand for long periods.

Additional Preferences

Experience in facility/area startup environments.

Leadership ability and prioritization of daily tasks without direct supervision.

Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.

Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple requests.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.

Emergency Response Experience:

Industrial, military, volunteer, or career firefighter.

Indiana State or IFSAC Certification – Fire 1, Hazmat Technician.

Additional Information

Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts (days and nights).

Flexibility during startup period.

Availability for overtime.

Short-term assignment of 1‑3 months domestically or internationally for training and certification; possible short travel for equipment testing.

Compensation and Benefits Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$33.89 - $49.71

per hour.

Full‑time employees also will be eligible for a company bonus, depending on company and individual performance.
