The Recreation Coordinator plans, organizes, and oversees aquatic and fitness programs that engage the community and enhance recreational opportunities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Management
Plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate aquatic and fitness programs.
Develop and implement program goals, budgets, and schedules, secure facilities, supplies, and equipment.
Process payments, track participation, and evaluate program success.
Staff Supervision
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time staff and volunteers.
Provide ongoing instruction and support to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Conduct inspections and identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions when needed.
Community Engagement
Promote SLARA programs through community partnerships, sponsorships, and fundraising.
Create and distribute marketing materials; utilize social media to promote events and programs.
Respond to public inquiries and complaints to ensure a positive customer experience.
Represent SLARA at community events and meetings to strengthen partnerships and visibility.
Administration
Order, inventory, and maintain program supplies and equipment.
Maintain organized and accurate departmental records.
Assist with administrative support, registration, and customer service duties as needed.
Attend evening and weekend programs and events as required.
Contribute to a positive team environment through cooperation, professionalism, and excellent customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Pool Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of professional aquatic programming experience preferred.
Experience in community-based recreation programs required.
Licenses and Certifications Employment is contingent upon maintaining all required certifications in active status.
Water Safety Instructor Certification (within one year of hire).
Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of:
Program and event planning and implementation in a public recreation setting.
Budget development and management principles.
Applicable laws, codes, and safety regulations.
Staff training, supervision, and team leadership.
Computer applications related to recreation management and administration.
Record management principles and customer service practices.
Effective communication and public presentation techniques.
Skill in:
Planning, organizing, and evaluating diverse recreation programs.
Supervising, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
Performing budgeting, cash handling, and recordkeeping duties.
Preparing clear, accurate, and concise reports and correspondence.
Managing time effectively and meeting deadlines.
Building and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers, community partners, and the public.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in an office and aquatic setting; stamina to sit, stand, or participate in activities for extended periods.
Agility to participate in recreation programs and assist in aquatic environments.
Strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Vision to read printed materials and computer screens; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is mostly performed in an office and/or pool setting. Outdoor and indoor programming requires work outside of the office setting and can include rough terrain, inclement weather, and loud noise. Position will require a flexible schedule as most programming is scheduled on weekday evenings and weekends.
