Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans. It is owned by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University, serving as a leader in geriatric educational training. Job Summary
Assist with administrative and daily management responsibilities for Health Information Management Services (HIMS), supervise HIMS staff, assist with supervision and maintenance of medical record functions, coordinate nursing home admissions, and serve as Assistant System Administrator for Point Click Care EMR for patient care. Uses strong communication skills to analyze and interpret state and federal regulations and familiarity with The Joint Commission long-term care standards. Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to: Health Information Management
– manage, organize and maintain resident medical records in compliance with regulations; ensure accuracy, confidentiality and timeliness; support HIPAA and security policies; conduct audits; manage EHR user access, training, and issue resolution; respond to release of information requests; participate in QA/QI initiatives; implement record retention policies; assist with discharge records; serve as Medical Record Custodian in the absence of the HIMS Director. Admission Responsibilities
– coordinate admissions, act as point of contact for residents and families, support resident-centered admissions, provide facility tours, maintain accurate admission records. Leadership Responsibilities
– provide backup coverage during Director’s absence; staff education and development; assist in policy development and implementation; produce and maintain reports; supervise HIMS staff in Director’s absence; maintain effective working relationships and conflict resolution. General Administrative Responsibilities
– assist with marketing and education about services and bed availability; assist with death certificates; handle phones and office duties; in Director’s absence, prepare billing and MDS reporting; maintain resident data for external reporting; credentialing for physicians; participate on committees as requested. Other Duties
– perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
– Completion of a 4+1 CAHIIM-accredited program with Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. Preferred Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration; experience in long-term care records; knowledge of state and federal regulatory standards; experience with Point Click Care. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge
– proficient in Microsoft Office; medical terminology; basic health information management concepts; continuing education to stay current with industry advances. Skills
– ability to work independently, excellent communication; adaptability in a changing environment. Abilities
– maintain confidentiality; detail-oriented; ability to gather data, evaluate reports, and analyze data; patience when working with elderly and infirmed. Certifications/License
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days, M-F; some after-hours work may be required. Pay Band: B8. Salary commensurate with qualifications. Benefits include health/dental/life insurance, retirement options, vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Tuition Assistance Program eligibility after six months of continuous employment. Conditions of Employment
